A Honey Kitten Paperdoll kind of day

Good Day!
Well, I have dentist hangover today.
I'm not in any specific pain, just overall kinda' dull, maybe a headache but not quite, maybe a little jaw pain...
just kinda' dull.
So....
You get a complete set of paper dolls. These are vintage, but I honestly don't know if they are copyright free. Let's just assume these are for your own personal use, unless they compose less than 70% of the original in a collage.
:0)

There you go!
Even if you aren't into paper dolls, I hope you have had a few nostalgic memories!

Budget hint:
You can print these out on thin paper, and use it as wrapping paper for a special someone.

Celebrate All American Breakfast Month of September

Ashtee

(Farsi for 'peace')

Palo Dura Canyon, Texas

Have you smiled today?
Have you told someone something positive today?
No?
That's okay, you still have some 'today' left to do those things!
:0)

the month of September is
All American Breakfast Month!!!

I am trying to mention all month events/celebrations closer to the first of the month, but sometimes I don't get it done early.
You still have 3 days to celebrate!
Why not make a yummy breakfast for 3 days?
Really! You can do it!

Let's get our aprons on!

Let's get the kids occupied!

Notice the unique way the artist has made some of Allison's paper clothes.

Let's put on some nice music.
Here are a few music artists that perhaps you are not familiar with:

When you click on the link, it will take you to that specific video,
BUT
each artist has several other songs and videos.
Have fun!

CHEESY BACON VEGETABLE MUFFINS
from Better Homes & Gardens Old Fashioned Home Baking cookbook
1 3/4 Cup flour
2 Tbs sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 beaten egg
3/4 Cup milk
1/3 cooking oil
6 slices bacon, crisp cooked, drained & crumbled (1/3 Cup)
1/4 Cup finely chopped onion
1/4 Cup finely chopped green pepper
2 ounces Swiss OR American cheese, cut into 12 (3/4 inch) cubes

Grease 12 (2 1/2 inch) muffin cups, or line them with paper bake cups. Set aside.

In a medium mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Make a well in the center of the dry mixture.

In another medium mixing bowl combine the egg, milk, and cooking oil.
Add the egg mixture all at once to the dry mixture.
Stir just until moistened (batter should be lumpy).
Fold in the crumbled bacon, onion and green pepper.

Spoon HALF of the batter into the prepared muffin cups.
Place one cheese cube in the center of each muffin, then add the remaining batter to the muffin cups, filling each cup 2/3 full.

Bake in a 400' oven about 20 minutes or till done.
Remove muffins from muffin cups and cool slightly on a wire rack.
Serve warm.
Makes about 12 muffins.

Some helpful hints:

1. When stirring muffin batter, really, there should be lumps!
If you stir out the lumps, your muffins will be tough.

2. ALWAYS have oven preheated. As soon as the batter is mixed,
pop muffins into the preheated oven right away.

3. To avoid soggy sides and soggy bottoms (oh no!), cool muffins in their baking pan only as long as directed in the recipe.
I generally pop them out as soon as I take them out of the oven.

September National Honey Month

Assalamou Alykoum

Islamic Greeting
means peace be upon you

September is National Honey Month
Hooray for the humble bee!!

illustration of Roman beekeepers

So, does anyone know why this design of honey dipper works? It really does reduce the drips and strings of honey - but why?

Here is a Swedish one-page paperdoll:

A Big Congrats to Miss Angola.

Her response to the question in Miss Universe 2011 was perfect.

"If you could change one thing about your body, what would it be?"

"I would change nothing. I have inner beauty, and that's what counts."

I've paraphrased, so google Miss Universe 2011 and you can read more in depth.

Oh yes, and she won the title Miss Universe 2011!!

"If you want to gather honey,

don't kick over the beehive."

- Dale Carnegie

"Nothing but Money
is sweeter than honey."

- Benjamin Franklin

a favorite cereal!

"No bees, no honey;
no work, no money."

- Proverb quote

Here is another bear paper doll.
I love the illustrations with this one.

"When you shoot an arrow of truth,
dip its point in honey."

- Arab Proverb

"We ought to do good to others as simply as a horse runs, or a bee makes honey, or a vine bears grapes season after season without thinking of the grapes it has borne."

- Marcus Aurelius

vintage illustration

"We're all busy little bees, full of stings,
making honey day and night,
aren't we honey?"

- Bette Davis

another one of my favorite ways to eat honey!

"The pedigree of honey
Does not concern the bee;
A clover, any time, to him
Is aristocracy."

- Emily Dickinson

I have enjoyed finding honey/bee quotes for today.

This next bee molds are just so perfect!
They are meant for cookies, I believe,
but you can also use soap, clay and other materials.

You should go hug your honey today!

and please, please, please
leave the bees alone, and they will leave you alone.
Bees are an important part of our eco-system.
:0)

p.s. it would make a little cute bear pretty happy too

Last Minute August Holidays

Bueno!
(Spanish for hello)

Just in the nick of time...
we have some last days of August holidays to celebrate!

In no partial order, let's start with
Peach MonthAugust 1 - 31

"I don't like people,
But I like individuals."

- Edward Abbey

"Love beauty;
it is the shadow of God on the universe."

- Gabriela Mistral

Second, we have

National Catfish Month
August 1 - 31

a blue catfish

I must admit, fishing has never been my thing.
Looking for photos to go with the Catfish Month, I was really grossed out!
Catfish are mean-ugly!

So, I have chosen illustrations for Catfish Month:

I mean, really, people eat these things?

Next and finally we have

National Toasted Marshmallow Day!
August 30

Now here's a day I can celebrate!

Toasted marshmallows and camping go hand in hand.
I like to think my Dad was the camping expert of his time.
He trained many men and women to be great camping experts world wide.

Go DT!

I have spent many evenings growing up around a campfire,
roasting marshmallows.
I could generally do without the chocolate or graham crackers,
but those yummy, crisp and gooey marshmallows...

Just sounds yummy, doesn't it?

Here is a must-have for all those chilly evenings around the fire:

So, on the way home from picking up the kids from school,
or going home from work,
or on the way back from your workout,
pick up some marshmallows!
okay,
you can get the Hershey's chocolate bars and box o' graham crackers too!

and maybe a peach or two...

See you tomorrow!
