Mary Kay TimeWise Matte Liquid Foundation

Hi Lovelies! Woo, finally it’s sembreak! You know what itmeans, more time to do reviews. Yay! Anyway, I listed all the things I need todo reviews on, then I was surprised that I just listed 30+ products to bereviewed. What the heck! I blame my school works for this... just kidding. Iknow, school should be the priority of every students right? Oh well, thisreview is a sponsored review from Jhia of Red Jhelli Shop. I actually told youabout this before in this post.

In my post before about Mary Kay concealer, you see how Iraved about that product. It works well in covering my acne marks. Justrecently, I  had a really bad breakout (iwill post a separate review) due to stress from school. I’m on the process ofhealing right now (finally!) but it leaves me with ugly pimple marks on myface. So even if I want to wear less makeup, I couldn’t because I can’t go outwith all those marks on my face! I swear, this is the first time I felt reallyembarrassed on how I looked like. Now, I understand when people says pimpleslower your self-confidence! I’ve never really knew how it feels until recently.

Good thing I had this foundation. If you’re interested on howit works for me, keep reading!

Mary Kay says,
“Combination to Oily Skin. Buildable coverage. Suitable forsensitive skin. Oil free and non-comedogenic”
A matte finish, oil-controlling foundation, formulated tofight the signs of ageing with a patented blend of collagen-building peptidesand vitamin E, an anti-oxidant that helps stressors. Visibly reduces theappearance of fine lines, wrinklesand imperfections for a perfectly flawlessfinish.
(Note: This foundation is matte-finish. It will works forpeople with oily to combination skin. If you have a flaky-dry skin, try theother variant which is the luminious wear)

I’m never a huge fan of liquid foundations just because Iprefer wearing BB Creams. However, I’ve tried full sizes liquid foundations from brandslike Revlon, Ever Bilena and Maybelline and some samples from Laneige and TheFaceshop. Atleast I have a little background about Liquid foundations.

Packaging:

This comes in a squeeze tube packaging which is I think notappropriate for the consistency of the product. The consistency of thisfoundation is liquidy and sometimes, the product goes on the cap making yourfoundation looks very dirty.

Plus, I’m a huge fan of pump tubes since it ismore hygienic and less hassle compared to squeeze tubes.

Color/ Formulation/consistency/finish:

This foundation is available in wide range of color! I gotmyself Beige2 just because the concealer I got is in Beige2 too. However, thisis slightly lighter than the concealer.

When I first swatch the two side by side (see the pic below in coverage), I was like, “Omg,this is lighter. Maybe, this will look lighter on my face.” I was surprisedthat it blends on my skintone very well making it look brighter instead ofwhiter.

The consistency of this foundation, just like what i’ve saidearlier, is liquidy. (Beware: do not squeeze the packging too much or else, you’ll waste alot of products. Sayang naman, mahal pa naman! LOL!) thus, itdoes not feel heavy on my face.

One  big problem I hadbefore with my Revlon colorstay is it dries really fast. Since this is liquidy,I find it easier to work with. I can spread it with ease and blend it evenly.

Upon application, it gives me a luminious glow but driesinto matte finish, although it is not drying on me. You can definitely wear thiswith or without setting a powder but I prefer it with powder to make it lastslonger.

Coverage:

It is buildable. One application will not give you fullcoverage, add more for more coverage. Although, do not add too much productbecause it has the tendency to look cakey especially if your skin is notwell-moisturized. I advised to wear primer prior to application of thisfoundation.

I did a comparison of the coverage with my mary kayconcealer (as shown above)

I drew a red line using a permanent red pen.

See how well the coverage of the concealer? Ofcourse, thishas no match for the concealer. It is a concealer anyway, but considering thatthis is just a foundation, it does a great job in covering the red ink. I didapply two coat of the foundation though.

However, on my face, I rarely apply two coats of this. Justone layer is enough to cover atleast 70-80% of my pimple marks. I use concealerto cover the marks that my foundation can’t cover.

PROS
-easy to blend
-matte finish
-controls oil
-good staying power
-does not feel heavy on my face
-instantly brightens up my face
-wide range of colors
-coverage is buildable
CONS
-expensive (not new for Mary kay products)
- the packaging is not appropriate for the consistency
- will cake if I apply more than2 layers

Would I recommend it? Definitely! I would repurchase it again if this run out

Maybelline Pure Mineral vs In2it Oil Control Foundation

Foundation is one of my-can’t-live-without-makeup thing-y.I’m sure I’m not alone right ladies? If I had to bring with me only onemake-up, I will definitely choose foundation.

For me, good foundation is a foundation that will not breakme out, will make my skin looks healthy and bright, no harmful chemicals and is notcakey when applied.

I’ve been looking for a mineral foundation compact for quite a longtime before I finally had this. I was a big fan of compact foundation becausethey’re much easy to bring and more convenient to use. Before, I had been usingthe Clearsmooth Mineral foundation of Maybelline but I find it a littleinconvenient for my taste. I am a person who always in hurry (especially when Ihave to go to school at 8am) and sometimes, I do some of my makeup whiletravelling. Since clearsmooth mineral is in powder form and doesn’t have mirrorin it, I find it hard to use while travelling. Although it is a great product,I just can’t stick to it since it is not convenient for me. That is the onlything that hinders me from having clearsmooth mineral as my HG (holy grail)foundation.

Anyway, you know that my Holy Grail Foundation is from IN2ITbecause it is a compact foundation, the color selection is great for yellowundertone and the coverage is really good. BUT I felt like my skin is gettingbad with daily use of this compact. Inspite of that, I couldn’t let it go sinceit’s my HG Foundation and you know what HG means right? So, when I found outabout the new line of Maybelline, I know I have to try this.
I have 2 compact and 3 refills. You'll know later the reason why I have 2 compact with me

Yes, you have to purchase the refill and the compact separately. Itwas a bit pricier than I expected it would be but whatever, I know I reallyhave to get this. It is indeed rare to find mineral foundation in compact for adrugstore brand.

The refill comes with a powder and a good quality sponge

Anyway, I would like this post to be a comparison between myUsed-to-be HG and my RECENTLY-HG foundation.

Compact:

Both come in a lovely compact. You could tell that In2it ismore for teenager as it comes in a pinky girly mirror-liked compact foundationwhile Maybelline looks more professional than the latter one.

Rear view:

In in2it compact, you could see place where you could putthe sticker of the shade so you’ll be guided on the shade of foundation.Another plus, the ingredients are also written in the sticker and the wt ofthe product.

While in Maybelline, I just randomly put the sticker of theshade which I got from the refill packaging onto the case.

Durability:
My in2it compact fell off my bags, hands etc. gazilliontimes already but I was still surprise that the compact is still working great!

If you have read my tweets weeks ago, you already know thatthis is my 2nd Maybelline Compact foundation. I was in ACE Water Spathat time. I was trying to reach for my swimsuit when I heard a bit of a crack. Then, I saw my compact sitting on the floor. Damn it. Honestly, it took me sometime before I decided to open the case. I was scared to open it as it was only1 week  old back then.

When I opened the compact, the foundation was allaround the compact.
I was really sad but atleast the mirror is still intact. Nocracks or anything. I was somehow relieved that I wouldn’t have to buy anothercompact, just the refill.
But when I tried closing the compact, itwouldn’t close. I was very disappointed! I just waste Php 699 for a foundationthat wouldn’t last me a week. BUT, it was all my fault. I couldn’t blame thedurability of the compact since it was 5 ft high.  But in all fairness, to see that the mirrorof the compact is still at one piece, I was greatly impressed.

Amount and Price:
In2it compact is cheaper and contains more product comparedto Maybelline.

In2it refill costs me Php 440. I forgot how muchcompact+refill really costs me but I think it’s around Php 650. One pancontains 9g.

Maybelline compact and refill are sold separately. Compactcosts me Php 250 while the foundation refill is Php 449. Together, they costPhp 699. It contains 7.5g.

Coverage and Lasting Power:
Both offer great coverage. Although, I personally think thatIn2it is better than Maybelline in terms of coverage. But there wasn’t a bigdifference though. If In2it could cover 85-90% of my acne marks, Maybellinewould cover 80-85%;

In terms of lasting power, both are great too. I couldn’treally tell which lasts long but normally, I do retouch 1-2x within a day withany of the foundation.

Other special points:
I would say that considering the Price, Amount and Coverageof product, In2it will win this. BUT,  Iwouldn’t say that it is something I could use for the rest of my life. My skinis getting bad with continuous use of this product. It does contain parabenstoo. While, Maybelline so far, I haven’t experienced any breaking out plus Ifelt like this is something I could use for a very long time since it isMINERAL and it does not contain PARABENS.

So in this battle, Maybelline Pure Pact Mineral WINS!

Anyway. I'm still using the powder on my 1st compact. I transferred it on my clearsmooth minerals case. Yay! Still using it when I'm not in hurry or to retouch.

Left: Maybelline Pure Mineral in OC2
Right: In2it Oil Control in Warm Beige
I wish shades of Maybelline is labeled with name instead of letters and numbers. It's quite hard to remember :))

  • Benefit : UV protection, Mineral enriched
  • Skin types : Normal
  • Formula : Pressed powder
  • Shades : Light Beige and Natural Beige

How to use: (from www.luview.com)

Why you should get this?

It has crystal, pearl, amethyst; etc that generate the splendid jewelry gloss to make skin looks shiny and glowing.

It has natural mineral ingredients that heightens skin friendliness and vegetable ingredients with soothing effect

It is an ultra-fine satin powder that covers  skin problems naturally and maintain the makeup just the way it is

It is a special sebum control powder that prevents lumping phenomenon and stain by excessive sebum and sweat

Packaging:

Have you tried having a good product but you couldn't bring it out and use in public places because it looks so cheap? I admit! I went through with that.  And I’m glad that I won’t be going through again because this is something you would love to show off.

Luview is very consistent with their packaging, from the BB Cream to Powder and even Eyeshadow palette. Everything looks very expensive. For me, red and gold is just a perfect combination. It is indeed very elegant and luxurious. The packaging is very true to its name. It comes in a “crystal-like” packaging that is very sophisticated.
The powder has two compartments so you’ll have a separate compartment for the powder and powder puff. The powder puff that comes in the packaging is oh! So soft and good! It makes the application even easier and smoother. Plus it has this lace where you slip your hands to hold on the puff while applying the powder. I usually do a “tap-ing”  motion rather than dragging the powder puff on my face.

Color/Texture:

The only problem with Korean products is they usually offer limited shades for powders. Most of their shades are for fair to medium skintone. I’m not sure what shade I got since I can’t read Korean but I’m pretty sure I have it in Natural Beige because I think Light beige would be way lighter than my skintone. Anyway, the powder is just right for my skintone. The powder is actually good for Asian women because it has a yellow undertone to it.

The texture is smooth and the powder is finely milled.

Coverage/Oil Control/Staying Power:
The coverage is very sheer, looks natural and skin-like. It doesn’t cake on me; just don’t try to add too much layer because it tends to cake if you add too much . It is a perfect combination for bb cream as it sets your bb cream. It doesn’t feel heavy too.

If you like more coverage, I suggest that you use concealer first. It would be much better to conceal spots rather than using a heavy coverage foundation on your face to conceal them.

It mattifies your face which is perfect if you have oily-skin. The powder stays only for 4-5 hours on my face, then after that I have to retouch again.

Would I recommend this?
Definitely! I’ve been using this everyday together with my Luview BB Cream or Skin79 BB Cream.

FaceShop: Phytogenic Infinite Foundation (Free sample only)

One thing I love about Korean stores is that they give you free samples. I don’t get why most drugstores product don’t do that. With free samples, your buyers could test the product first. They will know what products will works best for them. Sometimes, we are afraid to purchase products especially if it’s expensive because you’re wondering “what if it won’t works for me??” No matter how cheap or expensive the products, you want it to works somehow. Who wants to waste money anyway? Plus, when buyers receive free samples, they are more encouraged to go back and purchase more especially when free samples did work for them.

Okay, so the free sample that I got is their Phytogenic Infinite Foundation in NB23.
I think they do have two shades, for fair and medium. Obviously, I’m in medium shade.

I was not expecting that the shade will suits me. I’ve tried Korean bb creams and non really fit my skin perfectly. They are either a shade lighter or 10 shades lighter (haha, okay that’s just an exaggeration). Korean are known to have fair skin and flawless skin so I understand the color selection of their bb creams. The undertone of most bb creams are beige/gray. So, when I finally tried this I was surprise on how strong the yellow undertone is. For me, that’s a big YES! I do have a yellow undertone and this shade suits me!

Since it has a strong yellow undertone, the coverage was good but still, I use concealer underneath to cover my blemishes and my super dark undereye circles.

I was expecting that it will give me a brightening effect like those on bb creams but i was disappointed that it did not.

The consistency is quite thick and not as runny as Revlon colorstay (for dry skin). When applied on my face, it felt not as heavy as other liquid foundations but you could still feel like you’re wearing a foundation.

I’ve read in some blogs that this never cakes on them. How lucky they are. It does cake on me. It really does. But you could make it works by applying primer underneath. I would definitely not wear it alone. Oh, I forgot. The staying power is good enough. I wear it like 2 pm in school and when I went home at 9:00pm, the foundation is still there but hey, I set it with a powder.

So here’s the swatch on my hands.

Aw, Parabens! If you don't want your foundations with parabens, you might like to skip this one

Sorry for the lame shots, my camera is not focusing! Really, what happen to my cam? Oh well, atleast the last picture was better., See the yellow undertone. It is stronger in reality.
Okay, can you guess where is the part with foundation? I'm sure you could actually tell from the pics right. See, I really mean it when I said it's cakey. :)) Spot the difference baby.

IN2IT OIL CONTROL AND OIL FREE FOUNDATION REVISITED

Hi everyone! I would like to share with you my HG (Holy Grail) Foundation. Continue reading below to know why I love this foundation so much.

When I first saw this somewhere in google, I thought that it would come in a big compact like the one in Neutrogena but I was quite surprise when I saw this on Watsons. It’s a little bit smaller than Neutrogena Fine Fairness UV Compact and very handy to use.

The refill comes in handy pink compact too but without mirror. Please check my first review on this.

Down below you could see the shade of the powder and the ingredients.

When opened you could see the powder and a separate compartment for sponge.

Notice that I put a plastic on top of the powder to cover it. I hope it has a plastic cover (like in Neutrogena) to prevents fall outs.

I really like this 3 reason: cute packaging, amazing coverage and superb in oil control.

The sponge that comes with it is amazing too. It’s so so soft and works well with the powder.

But if you read my first review, the reason why I temporarily stopped using this is because it broke me out. The worst and longest breakout so far. Check this post on my skincare routine after my breakout.

But because I love this foundation so much, I tried different ways to make it works for me and it does!
Here’s what I did:

1. I was using Elf Two way foundation for quite a long time before switching to In2it Foundation. So I thought that maybe I broke out because of switching my foundation. Thus, I tried using different kinds of foundations every day and week so as not to stick to one foundation. I tried “light” foundations first (mineral foundation) then slowly switching to light-medium coverage foundation then to in2it foundation.

2. My sister once told me that foundation primer helps prevent your skin from absorbing talc and pigments from foundation. Talc clogs pores and leads to breakout. Therefore, I tried using primer underneath and see if it works on preventing my skin from breaking out.

The primer that I used underneath with this foundation is from Ellana, the Make It Lasts Ellana Primer.

Until my skin get used to this foundation and now I could wear it with or without primer.

I’m not sure which of the two helped me but anyway, the important part is I can now use IN2IT Foundation! Hooray for me!

AVON SIMPLY PRETTY SHINE NO MORE DUAL POWDER FOUNDATION

(picture to follow)

When I decided to buy this, I was expecting too much. Again, GirlTalk... very influencial! Lol! Just like the old times, I bought this because of the raves. I was about to pick Light Beige when the Avon Lady told me that my shade is in almond. So, okay. You’re the seller. Maybe, you know my shade in Avon better. Again, it’s only 199. It doesn’t hurt to try.

So, i went home and tried the foundation. WHAT THE HELL! This is soooo white! Again. It doesn’t hurt to try. I put in on my cabinet and promise myself never to try it again! LOL! Until one day, I ran out a powder (Elf studio line in Beige). So, I decided to make use of this since I only have 2 full coverage foundations left, my In2it and Avon. And I know you know how in2it broke me out. So, no no. I’d rather use the whiter one than suffer with zits all over my face. So, to cut it short. I use this one. I wet the sponge. I dunno why I always wet the sponge when the foundation is lighter than my skin tone. Guess my instinct told me so. So, I applied it. And guess what. It’s lighter than the first time I tried it. Whatever. So, I stayed home with face looking like a ghost. And after 30 minutes, it oxidizes on me. Believe me! It does! I don’t know why. I read reviews about this product and it never oxidized on them But, it oxidized on me like hell! If people would think that’s cons for me. It wasn’t. At least now, I can use it every now and then. It makes me happy when a thing I thought was useless suddenly works for me. Maybe, less than a month, I will be hitting the pan! BUT, I can’t still decide now if I will buy again since I bought a new powder this morning. Guess what, I bought Maybelline Clear smooth minerals foundation. I know you know how much I hate loose powder. Originally, I was going to buy Maybelline Angelfit. But hey hey, maybe I should stop rambling on how messy mineral makeup. It’s good for my skin! So I told myself, “Eloisa, let your face breathe!” Maybe, I would try Maybelline Angelfit when I’m almost done with this one.

Anyways, too much off topic again. Pardon me ladies. So here’s my Pros and Cons on Avon Simply Pretty Dual Foundie

PROS
>Light to full coverage. 80% of my pimple marks were covered.
>Good oil control. Lasted me more than 6 hours without retouching.
>Cheap and has SPF
>I like the packaging. Better than Elf studio line foundation

CONS
>Limited shade. Almond is lighter and natural (next darker shade) is dark on me
>Oxidized on me (maybe, that’s just me! But really, it oxidized on me!  )

PRICE: Php 250 but got it on sale, Php 199.
Rate: 4/5
Would I recommend this? Yes! This is a good foundation inspite of the limited shade.

L’OREAL BARE NATURALE FOUNDATION

L’OREAL BARE NATURALE FOUNDATION

L’oreal Says
“This foundation offers high coverage with the weightless feel of a powder. Made up of essential minerals, L'Oreal Paris Bare Naturale Powdered Mineral Foundation protects the skin and lets it breathe freely without clogging pores or causing breakouts. Aloe and vitamin B5 soothe, nurture and condition the skin while antioxidant vitamin E helps protect against free radical damage. Suitable for sensitive and intolerant skin, as well as imperfection-prone complexions.”

First, lemme talk about the packaging. I think the packaging is brilliant. I like the idea that they added brush to this foundation. The brush that comes with it is not that bad either. It’s soft and can blend the powder very well. Though, others may find this a little bit scratchy because it’s made from a cheap material. If you find this brush scratchy, you might get irritated because you still have to bring the brush with you even if it’s useless. Also, the packaging itself is kinda big. I prefer the small circle packaging like Ellana / Elf Mineral foundation.

I have this in shade, “Natural Beige” which is a little bit darker on me. I got this from ebay so I had hard time finding my shade. LOL! But no worries, I still use this with my bb cream which is lighter than my skintone.

The coverage of this is quite good. You can achieve full coverage with this one which is plus plus plus for me. Though, I find this cakey sometimes. The staying power is good too. It stays 4-6 hours on me.
I like the smooth finish it gives too.

“Suitable for sensitive and intolerant skin”--- not true. It cause breaks out on my sister. I don’t wear this everyday because my skin gets bad after continuous use.

PROS
>It’s a mineral makeup
>Available locally.
>It comes with a brush
>A little goes a long way
>Light to full coverage
>Staying power is good
>Controls oil
>Feels light on skin
>Has SPF

CONS
>Cakey
>Can cause skin to breakout

Rate: 3.5/5

Would I recommend this? Yes, overall it’s still a good product. Full coverage + mineral makeup + light on skin = L’oreal Bare Naturale

Would I buy again? No. I don’t like loose powder and I still want to try other foundations out there.
